Solarize Ojai: A Group-purchasing Program Running April 22 – July 22

Announcing the launch of “Solarize Ojai,” a three-month long group purchasing program designed to make going solar easier and more affordable for Ojai Valley homeowners. Our partner, the Community Environmental Council (CEC) helps guide homeowners through the entire process as an unbiased expert resource – making it as easy as possible for everyone to go solar.

With CEC the Green Coalition evaluated and vetted the installer partners for the program and then secured from them a discounted price. Homeowners can have peace of mind knowing they are working with a reputable contractor and getting a great price. We hope even more homeowners will take advantage of our 3rd offering of this program since 2012. We’ve installed over 95 kilowatts of solar electricity generating capacity to date through this program.
Homeowners who are interested in learning more about the program or signing up to get a solar proposal can visit SolarizeOjai.org or call (805) 963-0583 x 105 for more information.
CEC and OVGC will also host three introductory workshops where residents can learn about energy efficiency, conservation, and the solarize program. The first scheduled workshop is Thursday, April 30 at the Chaparral Auditorium, 414 E Ojai Avenue from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Michael J. Shapiro, a community activist and Coalition member shared, “I’d always dreamed of having my Ojai house go Solar someday but until the Green Coalition’s sponsored 2nd Solarize Ojai program I didn’t know where to begin or how to determine if I’d even benefit from doing so. All my questions and more were completely answered by the knowledgeable folks made available to me from the Green Coalition’s Solarize Ojai program. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone that’s even remotely thinking about taking their first steps towards going solar!”
Solarize Ojai benefits to local residents
• Reduces the costs of solar as community group-purchasing programs offer more affordable pricing than an individual purchase;
• Simplifies the contractor selection process;
• Ensures quality installation and service;
• Increases the amount of renewable energy in the Ojai Valley.
In order to participate in Solarize Ojai a homeowner must
• Live within the Ojai Valley – which includes Ojai, Mira Monte, Meiners Oaks, Oak View and surrounding unincorporated areas;
• Own a home that is suitable for solar installation;
• Sign a contract with one of the pre-qualified installers between April 22 and July 22, 2015.
To apply for “Solarize Ojai,” homeowners can go to SolarizeOjai.org for the simple, 5-minute application process. CEC will then contact applicants to discuss the process and expectations.
In addition to getting a discounted price for solar power, Solarize Ojai participants will be helping to support OVGC’s and CEC’s missions. Included in the purchase price is a small one-time fee paid by the installer company. This fee will help both organizations continue to promote renewable energy in the Central Coast region and be self-sustaining, with no additional cost to the homeowner.
