The Ecological Function of the Human Being: Finding our Place Together in Gratitude
Thursday, November 20 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Coalition Resource Center
Are we the problem? The solution? Both or neither? Join a small group of Green Coalition members and friends to explore these questions through creative means. We will discover and explore our closely held beliefs, hopes and fears by traveling into our inner world. Resources abound and are revealed when forays are made together. Art making, writing and shared texts will serve as a framework.
The process will be facilitated by Pat B. Allen, Ph.D., ATR, Green Coalition member, artist, writer and art therapist and author of two books: Art is a way of knowing (1995) and Art is a spiritual path (2005). Pat has also earned a permaculture design certificate and is a Master Gardener in Ojai. Before moving here 12 years ago, she founded the Open Studio Project in Evanston, IL where she now serves as visiting faculty. Her present work is about Collaborative Inquiry Through Art as a means to engage the natural world.
Come for an introductory experience and decide if you’d like more. NO art or writing experience is necessary. The experience is meant to provide support for activists and concerned citizens and to aid Pat in her research on these topics.
A suggested donation of $10 for OVGC supporting members and $15 for non-members payable at the door will go to support the Green Coalition. Space is limited to 18 participants, so please RSVP early to membership@ojaivalleygreencoalition.com.
It has been over 40 years since President Nixon signed the Controlled Substances Act making hemp illegal, yet industrial hemp has no drug value. The film Bringing it Home is packed with information that will leave you surprised and well informed about the often misunderstood topic of industrial hemp.
BRINGING IT HOME (52 minutes filmed in high definition)
Industrial hemp is a non-psychoactive plant, grown in 30 other countries, but prohibited in the United States. Legalization advocates say it could help American farmers, create jobs and replace thousands of harmful petrochemical and synthetic products.
BRINGING IT HOME explores the question “Why aren’t we growing it here?” while discussing hemp’s past, present and future with business owners using it for construction, textiles, nutrition, soaps and bio-plastics in America and abroad.
Join us Sunday, November 09, 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. at The Ojai Art Center theater for the film screening followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, Linda Booker, and a panel of distinguished professionals and activists.
There will also be hemp product samples and displays on hand.

“Urbanism Matters – Why Healthy Urbanism is Essential for Healthy Communities”, presented by Nick Deitch of Main Street Architects, an award winning Ventura firm specializing in sustainable design.
Nick will let us know the newest concepts for urban planning intended to reverse the negative impacts communities have suffered since the arrival and domination of the automobile. He’ll focus on pedestrian friendly connections versus the promotion of urban sprawl, the separation of homes and services, and distancing that grew following the onset of the car. He will also share concepts for a healthy community taking into account our local Valley concerns and the rural / urban interface.
Thursday, September 25, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Chaparral Auditorium – 414 E. Ojai Ave.
This event begins with our popular community potluck. If joining us for the meal, please bring a vegetarian dish to share (local and organic ingredients encouraged) and your own table service.
There is a $5 suggested donation at the door and includes a drawing for a Nutiva gift pack.
Evening Program:
6:30-7:00 networking
7:00-7:30 dinner
7:30-8:30 presentation and Q&A
8:30 drawing (must be present to win)
